Basic Philosophy

Basic Philosophy of the Japan Organizing Committee of WorldSkills Aichi 2028

Japan has achieved growth and development by continuously passing down skills and creating outstanding products and services.
In recent years, however, as in many other developed countries, Japan has faced declining birth rate, making it increasingly important across many occupations to secure skilled human resources—particularly young skilled professionals—and to ensure the transmission of skills.
To address these challenges, it is essential to broaden awareness and understanding of diverse occupations among the next generation, as well as adults around them including parents and teachers, and to present pathways to diverse career choices and initiatives that support the succession of skills to them.

The WorldSkills Competition is held for the purpose of promoting vocational training and improving skill standards in the participating countries and regions, and also fostering international exchange and goodwill.

Since Japan became the first Asian country to participate in the WorldSkills Competition  in 1962, Japan has continued to send competitors and has hosted the competition three times.

The constitution of WorldSkills International (WSI), the governing body of the WorldSkills Competition, sets forth the vision of “improving the world through the power of skills.”
Japan shares this vision and had worked to host the WorldSkills Competition in Aichi, Japan.

Japan was approved unanimously to host the 49th WorldSkills Competition in Aichi, Japan, in 2028 at the WSI General Assembly held in Lyon, France in September 2024, marking Japan’s first time hosting the event in 21 years and its fourth time overall.

Against this backdrop, the Japan Organizing Committee of WorldSkills Aichi 2028 will proceed with its activities based on following Basic Philosophy.

    1. The Japan Organizing Committee of WorldSkills Aichi 2028 will carry out the preparations and operations of WorldSkills Aichi 2028 with the utmost commitment to its success, positioning the competition as an opportunity for the next generation to deepen their interest in skills and broaden their perspectives on work and careers.
    2. By hosting the competition, the Japan Organizing Committee of WorldSkills Aichi 2028 will help accelerate a global movement that values skills, contribute to a sustainable future for both the world and Japan, foster broader interest in skills and occupations, and contribute to human resource development as well as the growth of Japan’s economy and industries.
